Each week between now and Christmas, we will be featuring at least one toy from the Toys R Us top 15 toy picks for 2009. These top 15 toys were selected based on their appeal, quality, and overall value. This week, we’re featuring the Bakugan Battle Brawlers Maxus Helius 7-in-1 action figure. This toy is based on a Cartoon Network series called Bakugan, and kids can play a 2-player strategy game with the action figures and the cards that come in the box.

Their latest featured product is Santa’s Magic Key, a magical skeleton key that Santa can use to get into your house, even if you don’t have a chimney.

If you like to buy toys that are more unique and not your run of the mill licensed toys from television shows or movies, you might find this video from Toy Directory helpful. It runs nearly 10 minutes, and features many toys for all ages of kids that aren’t what you’d normally find when strolling the aisles of Toys R Us.
If you know someone who’s having a baby or who has a new baby, this adorable Fisher Price Learning Puppy could be a huge hit. This educational toy teaches the alphabet, numbers, body parts, and colors, and also lets the baby play games or sing songs.
If you live in a locale where there isn’t a Toys R Us store nearby, you may find one popping up nearby in the coming months. Taking a cue from the books of Halloween Express and Christmas Express, Toys R Us will be opening 80 temporary stores in October across the country.
While the toy industry’s earnings are down due to the economic crisis, it is doing better than many other retail sectors. By adding 80 temporary stores, Toys R Us will be increasing its number of stores by 9 percent in an attempt to remain competitive with other large chains that sell toys, like Walmart. Toys R Us will also be adding toy sections to 260 of its existing Babies R Us stores.
It looks like there’s going to be some stiff competition for your toy-purchasing dollar this year, with Toys R Us also putting displays of toys that cost $3 or less at the front of its stores, to entice the more frugal customers to spend even just a little cash on a toy.
The temporary Toys R Us stores will only be open through January, and will be about 4,000 square feet. (Many will likely be going into vacant KB Toys locations.) While they won’t be nearly as large as the company’s regular stores, they will give the retail giant a presence in markets that don’t currently have a Toys R Us store.
